Dye Tests

Description
The purpose of a dye test is to determine if there is a malfunction of an on-lot sewage septic system.  This is done by introducing a strong dye into the system typically through a toilet, sink or "take out".  As water is run through the system, this (non-toxic and non-staining) dye will create a visible trace of any possible seepage or discharge to the surface.

Qualifying Questions
If you answer "yes" to any of the following questions, you will need to perform a dye test:

  1. Are you buying an existing property with an existing on-lot sewage septic system? And do you want to determine if the system is malfunctioning?

  2. Does your lending institution require that you verify that an existing on-lot sewage septic system is in working order?

  3. Do you want to confirm a suspected malfunction in an existing on-lot sewage septic system and/or determine where the malfunction is occurring?
